About the Assignment

Based on the themes we investigate as a class related to public sphere writing, editing, or higher education, the whole class will – in smaller working groups – compose, revise, edit, and submit a Wikipedia article on a new topic already identified, or on a “stub” that needs expansion. This is our culminating assignment, and it gives you the opportunity to enact principles offered by Lazere, Liu, Ridolfo and Rife, and Zittrain about achieving clarity without oversimplification, and  understanding remediation as more than a simple changing out of tools. Writing on the Wiki requires some study of ethics and fallibility, not to mention a sense of what the Wiki community values and needs. Group assignments will be worked out early in the semester, and you will have to fulfill a series of steps before submission. I'll ask you to establish a free account on Wikipedia so that your revisions and edits can be tracked.
